The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is a global event for those working in the creative communications, advertising and related fields. The Cannes Lions Festival is one of the largest gatherings of worldwide advertising professionals, creatives, designers, innovators, and marketers.

1) REI #OptOutside by Venables Bell & Partners SF

If you’re a person who thrives in the outdoors, you’ve probably heard of REI and their #optoutside campaign. It was a great social media campaign that got people sharing their outdoor images on social. This is a brilliant campaign and won a grand prix award. REI closed down the doors for Black Friday and gave their employees the day off to #optoutside.

2) Surgeon Tryouts for Kurashiki Central Hospital by TBWA/Hakuhodo Tokyo

TBWA/Hakuhodo and the Kurashiki Central Hospital partnered to create the most unique set of tests to find the next best surgeon. They called it the Surgeon Tryouts. Instead of a normal exam that one might expect, they asked everyone to complete a set of unconventional tests such as creating a series of small origami swans, a miniature sushi plate and more.

3) I Am Muslim for Passop by Native VML

Recent terror attacks have driven a wedge between muslims and their fellow citizens, fueling hatred and distrust. To help remind the world that being muslim does not make someone a terrorist, Passop and Native VML created an amazingly impactful advertising campaign that featured muslim women wearing a flag as a hijab.

4) Monty’s Christmas for John Lewis by Adam&Eve DDB London

Love penguins? You’ll love this ad spot for John Lewis department store. Adam&Eve DDB London created this heart-warming ad about a young boy and his penguin.

5) Come to Manhood for Old Spice by Wieden+Kennedy

Old Spice is known for their weird commercials and Wieden+Kennedy delivered yet another hit winning a Gold Lion at this year’s Cannes Lion 2016. Watch as a teen transitions into manhood by using Old Spice.

6) Manboobs for Boobs for MACMA by DAVID

Argentinian breast cancer nonprofit Movimiento Ayuda Cáncer de Mama (MACMA) wanted to spread awareness on ways to check for breast cancer in a different way. They created a video tutorial on how to check for breast cancer on manboobs. You heard that correct!

7) Brewtroleum for DB Export by BBDO

The Brewtroleum campaign by BBDO was one of the few campaigns that won a grand prix award at Cannes Lions 2016. This brilliant campaign encourages people to drink DB Export beer because they created a way to create fuel from the byproduct.

8) McWhopper by BBDO

Those who love fast food loved this campaign that combined two of the best hamburger chains: McDonalds and Burger King. This thoughtful campaign was a PR move by Burger King to try to combine forces with McDonalds to bring a new hamburger that all fast food aficionados would love.

9) Harvey Nichols’ Shoplifting by Adam&Eve/DDB

Harvey Nichols’ promoted their rewards program in the most unusual way by showing real security footage of shoplifters but superimposed cartoon heads on the shoplifters to give it a comedic element. The tagline for the film was, “Love freebies? Get them legally.”

10) Rule Yourself by Droga5

This campaign for Under Armour will give you the chills with it’s mindblowing and dramatic visuals and story. It’s about what you do in the dark that will put you into the light. Well done Droga5!
